I wanted to fletch some arrows with Bohning Blazers, and I wanted to wrap the arrows as well. When I went to pick up the needed materials, I got to looking at the Extreme Archery Products Shrink Fletch System. Here was a crested set of Blazer vanes and all I needed for setting it up on my arrow shaft was a little boiling water. This I had to try.
It’s THAT easy
The vanes are attached perfectly and seemed very rugged. So all that was needed was for my shafts to be clean. No sweat, they were ready to go. I boiled some water and poured it into a large jar. I slipped the first sleeve on and positioned it where I wanted it. I dipped it into the water and presto! Instant fletched arrow! I did a dozen arrows in roughly five minutes.
Extreme offers this system with Blazers and Duravanes. You can get a white sleeve for a crested look, or a clear sleeve. They offer both the solid color Blazers as well as the tiger striped ones and have a Team Realtree version with a clear sleeve and camo-colored vanes. They come in packages of six and are reasonably priced.
The Outwrite Truth
Shooting these sleeves is the same as shooting any other arrow. They hold up extremely well. I have put them through targets repeatedly and have seen no signs of wear. One arrow that got away from me for a few days and sat outside did show some mild discoloration in the sleeve from sitting in the sun for a few days. Not a big deal if you ask me. I should have found it sooner. For me, I don’t see a downfall to using the Shrink Fletch System. I have a few more arrows that need fletching and will be using the same product on them. They are one of those products that does exactly what they say they will do and do so at a good price. What more could you ask for?
