The Michigan Moose Hunting Advisory committee has agreed to endorse a limited bull moose hunt in Michigan for 2012. This hunt would be a for-residents only hunt and be for the harvest of 10 bull moose.
The committee is sending the results to the Michigan Natural Resources Commission. The committee feels that a minimal harvest of 10 bulls wouldn’t harm the overall herd and the resulting application fees and license costs of $100 per tag would further fund moose research.
The hunts would take place in October or November in Marquette, Barraga and Iron counties in the Upper Peninsula.
I don’t totally agree with this one, having lived in the U.P. for a while when I was in college. I didn’t see a lot of moose up there. That said, I for sure am not going to pass up the opportunity to hunt moose in my home state. We’ll keep you posted on this one.
